Prayer Garden
Welcome to the prayer garden of the heart where we are moved to ponder the mysteries of life on earth and life eternal.
Who is the Prayer Garden for?
The prayer garden is for everyone. It is for the young the old, the able and the not so able – whether you are a total beginner and have never prayed before, or are someone who has lapsed in your prayer life, or indeed if you are accustomed to praying each day- the prayer garden has a niche that is just the perfect place for you to begin your spiritual journey. Just take a look around and find what part of the prayer garden you feel drawn to or find yourself comfortable in and begin your prayer/ if you are feeling a bit lost please contact me.
What is the Prayer Garden?
Let’s close our eyes and imagine that we are in a spiritual garden filled with lillies and roses of all types and colours, violets, pansies and forget-me-nots to mention but a few, all available to be hand picked and interwoven with Gypsophila or Baby Breath, into beautiful spiritual bouquets or spiritual crowns to offer to Jesus through Mary.
That is what a Rosary is, it is a prayer garden of spiritual flowers, gathered by meditating or reflecting upon the scriptures, with each bead being a Rose- the Our Fathers are the luscious red roses depicting the Love that the Father has for each and everyone of us, so much so, that He sent His Only Son to suffer an agonizing and cruel death in order to atone for our sins, and save us from eternal death.
The Hail Marys are the white roses that stand for purity and peace because from her pure virginal womb, Mary bore Jesus Our Saviour, while the Angels sang of Peace on earth to men of goodwill,
The Glory Be’s are Golden Roses of such a hew and scent that even the angels humbly bow their heads, while these Golden Roses are being handed to Our Lady by us to offer to the Holy Trinity on our behalf, because they represent the Majestic Glory of our Triune God’s Compassion and Love. We offer them to
The lilies remind us of the tears of Our Holy Mother, Mary, shed from her Heart pierced with sorrow, for love of Jesus and for love of each one of us, her children. The pansies of various colours are the little token offerings we bring of our time and perhaps a small sacrifice or two throughout our day to offer with the other spiritual flowers in our rosary with love. The Forget-me-nots are our intentions which we offer to Jesus through the hands of Mary our Mother.
Sometimes this world can offer us specially designed man made sacred spaces in which to pray, such as a church, or prayer room, or sensory garden, and at other times we may be led by the Spirit to find some beautiful spot in God’s Creation spontaneously uplifting our heart in prayer in the awesome cathedral of Creation, made by His Own Hand.
Wherever our feet are planted when we pray, the call to prayer comes from deep within us- yes, we may hear or see something that inspires us to want to pray, but the actual want and the need to pray comes from deep within us, it is an invitation from God to each and everyone of us, that is interwoven into our very being. There is within each one of us a sacred space that lies hidden from the world, a special place where our spirit encounters God and rests in Him .
Though this world may tempt us with many wants and desires, there is nothing that this world can offer us that leaves us feeling fulfilled in the same way that prayer does.
Here on earth, as soon as we strive for, and receive, or achieve, one material earthly gain, we are immediately engaged in the urgency of gathering more and then having more still in order to protect and secure what we have so far gained – and so it goes on. Prayer is different, for although it helps us ascend in holiness and gain virtue, it quiets our body and soul and fills us with peace enabling us to grow in the light of God’s Grace trusting Him like little children trust a very caring and loving father.
If we choose to remain without prayer and without God, in our lives, then we are choosing to remain enslaved to our earthly wants and desires and we deprive ourselves of the joyful freedom of living life as a child of God. If we choose the path of prayer, however, we choose freedom, the freedom to grow to our full potential as Co-heirs to the Kingdom of God’s Love and Mercy. As children of God, we are already, through, with and in Jesus Christ, given the Blessings and Joys of God’s Kingdom of Love and Mercy and we are called to share these Blessings and Joys with others.
